How to make money on TikTok

Start with TikTok Shop affiliate and TikTok One brand projects, which both open at 1,000 followers. Add the Creator Rewards Program at 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in 30 days, then Subscriptions and Series. LIVE gifts pay at TikTok's discretion. At 1,000 followers you can also add a website link and sell your own products.

TikTok pays creators through six programs, and you can sell your own products on top of them. The programs open at different follower counts. TikTok Shop affiliate and TikTok One brand projects start at 1,000 followers, while Creator Rewards, Subscriptions and Series need 10,000.

This guide covers what each income stream needs, what TikTok keeps, and the order to add them. It reflects the US terms as of October 21, 2026. For per-view estimates and the full payout rules, see how much TikTok pays.

The numbers

  • TikTok Shop affiliate and TikTok One brand projects both open at 1,000 followers.
  • Creator Rewards needs 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the last 30 days, and videos at least 1 minute long.
  • Subscriptions pay 70% after fees, or up to 90% if you post 3 or more subscriber-only videos a month and meet the follower and view bar.
  • TikTok lets accounts with 1,000 followers add a website link to their profile.
  • Collabstr's 2026 Influencer Marketing Report puts the average TikTok collaboration on its marketplace at $186.

Which TikTok income stream should you start with?

Start with TikTok Shop affiliate and TikTok One brand projects, because both open at 1,000 followers and pay from your first sale or deal. Creator Rewards makes you wait until 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in 30 days. Even then, it pays only for videos that run 1 minute or longer.

Add fan payments last. Subscriptions, Series and LIVE gifts depend on viewers who already want more of you, and a small account rarely has enough of them. Your own products can start at 1,000 followers, once TikTok lets you put a link on your profile.

The table shows the order we would follow for a new US account. Product reviewers should push Shop first. Comedy and storytelling accounts, which rarely sell products, should lean on brand deals and Creator Rewards instead.

How does TikTok Shop affiliate make money?

TikTok Shop affiliate pays you a commission on every order placed through your videos, LIVEs or affiliate links. The seller sets the rate, anywhere from 1% to 80%, and you see the estimated commission on each product page before you add it to the products you promote. Commission typically settles on the 15th day after delivery, or up to 31 days if a return or dispute holds it up.

In the US you can apply at 1,000 followers if you are 18 or older and based in the United States. TikTok Shop's Creator Eligibility Policy, dated September 25, 2026, puts creators under 5,000 followers into a pilot program for at least 30 days. Pilot creators can post up to 3 shoppable videos a day, cannot join campaigns, and can only promote products with a Shop Performance Score of 95% or higher.

Shop is the best first income for product reviewers, unboxers and anyone who already says "I bought this" on camera. It is a poor fit for accounts with no natural reason to show products. Pick items you would use anyway, since a run of weak recommendations costs you the trust that makes the next one sell. Our guide to affiliate marketing for influencers compares Shop with other programs.

How do brand deals on TikTok One pay?

TikTok One is TikTok's own marketplace for paid brand work, and its projects open at 1,000 followers. You must be 18 or older and live where TikTok One has launched, and each project can add its own requirements. TikTok's help center, last updated July 2026, lists those rules.

TikTok's April 2026 help page lists three payment models. Base pay is a flat fee per deliverable. Revenue share pays based on how the video performs and is limited to in-feed ads. Some projects pay both, and TikTok says those terms are not negotiable.

Deals you find yourself let you set the price. Collabstr's 2026 Influencer Marketing Report, drawn from more than 21,000 collaborations on its marketplace, puts the average TikTok collaboration at $186, and nearly 80% of all its collaborations cost under $300. Use our guides on how to get brand deals and how much to charge for sponsored posts to set your rate, and label every paid post under the FTC disclosure rules.

When should you join the Creator Rewards Program?

Apply for Creator Rewards as soon as you reach 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in 30 days, but treat it as a bonus. The US terms, last updated July 20, 2026, also require you to be 18 or older, use a personal account in good standing, and post videos of at least 1 minute.

TikTok decides the amount at its discretion, counts only qualified views, and can cap rewards. It pays on the 15th of each month once your balance reaches $50. TikTok publishes no rate. Uppbeat's 2026 roundup of creator-reported payouts estimates $362 to $1,035 per 1 million qualified views.

Even at the top of that estimate, 3 million qualified views in a month would pay about $3,100. That is why we put it third. If you already make videos longer than a minute, it costs you nothing extra. If you make 15-second clips, do not stretch them just to qualify. Are Subscriptions, Series and LIVE gifts worth it?

Subscriptions are worth turning on once you have viewers who comment on every post, because TikTok pays 70% of revenue after fees. TikTok announced on October 28, 2025 that creators get an extra 20%, for up to 90%, if they have 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the last month, and 3 or more subscriber-only videos posted in the last month. You need 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the past month to offer a subscription at all.

Series sells a collection of videos behind a paywall. The US Series terms require 10,000 followers, an account at least 30 days old, and a public post in the last 30 days. TikTok sets the price options and pays on the 15th once you reach $50. You cannot delete a Series once it is published, only delist it, so test the idea on free videos first.

LIVE gifts suit creators who can stream on a schedule and hold a chat for an hour. TikTok's LIVE Safety Guide says you must be 18 or older to go LIVE and to receive gifts, and that the follower minimum varies by market. Gifting does not send money to you directly. TikTok counts gifts as Diamonds and sets your reward from them plus stream length, new followers, engagement and other factors. It is the least predictable stream on this page.

How do you sell your own products from TikTok?

Put a link on your profile as soon as TikTok allows it, then sell something you own. TikTok's support center says you can add a website link once you have 1,000 followers, or earlier with a Verified Business Account.

Your own products are the one income stream TikTok cannot cap or change. That could be a guide, a preset pack, coaching calls, a membership or merch. Patreon's pricing page, for example, lists a 10% fee plus payment processing, and our guide on how to sell to your fans compares the other options.

Collect email addresses from the first sale. A list moves with you if TikTok changes a program or your account gets restricted, and you can sell to it without paying for reach.

What does the US joint venture mean for TikTok creators?

For creators, the US joint venture mostly changed who issues the terms and who pays you. TikTok's newsroom announced TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC on January 23, 2026. Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX each own 15%, and ByteDance keeps 19.9%.

The joint venture handles US user data, retrains the recommendation algorithm on US data, and sets content moderation policy. TikTok's global US entities still run certain commercial work, including e-commerce, advertising and marketing. The announcement says nothing about creator pay.

The paperwork shows the change. The US Creator Rewards terms are provided by the joint venture, and a separate company, TT Commerce & Global Services, is responsible for payment. The US Series terms, updated January 22, 2026, say the joint venture sets Series prices. The Creator Rewards bar of 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in 30 days is the same one TikTok announced when the program launched on March 18, 2024.

Every one of these programs lets TikTok change eligibility, rates or caps. Keep a second platform and your own email list going so a policy change does not cut your income to zero. Our guide on how to make money on Instagram is a good place to start on the second one.

Is TikTok still safe to build an income on?

TikTok runs legally in the US through TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, set up in January 2026. The Creator Rewards thresholds are the same ones TikTok set in March 2024. The bigger risk is that every program lets TikTok change its terms, so keep a second platform and an email list.
